FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Before you edit an ALS file.
Answers about the current public demo, what changes, where files are processed, and what still needs checking in Ableton Live.
What can CutTempo edit?
CutTempo edits MIDI note velocity and duration in supported small Ableton .als files. Note pitches, start positions, source IDs and note count stay fixed. It does not change tempo, add timing humanization, create notes or edit audio.
Which files are supported?
The current public workflow accepts .als files up to 300 KB (300,000 bytes), with at most 256 MIDI notes and one complete MIDI clip per track. Editable clips need identifiable source IDs and known loop boundaries. .mid and .midi input are not supported.
Does a velocity-only or duration-only request lock the other field?
No. These requests express your intent. The edit system allows both velocity and duration changes, so inspect both fields in the candidate review and restore unwanted edits before keeping the result.
Do I need an account or credits for the public ALS demo?
The current public ALS demo does not require account credits. Generation is rate-limited and depends on service availability. Account credit purchases are not connected to this demo flow and do not expand its file limits or remove its rate limits.
Are my sessions synced through my account?
The ALS workspace stores recent sessions in this browser using IndexedDB. Signing in does not sync these sessions to your account or another device. Download important candidates before clearing site data; browser storage can also be removed by the browser.
Is the selected ALS file processed only on my device?
No. Selecting an ALS file uploads it to the inspection service immediately. Generation sends the ALS file and your musical instructions to the service, and manual candidate saving also uses server-side verification. Upload only material you are authorized to use.
How do I delete uploaded runtime data?
Uploaded files and run state may be retained by the runtime. Closing a tab or clearing browser storage does not delete server-side data. The ALS workspace does not provide a runtime-data deletion control; contact support@borealbit.com to request deletion.
Does the A/B preview play my Ableton instruments?
No. The preview uses simple sine voices at clip-local note times and an assumed tempo. It does not render your devices, samples, effects or original Live sound. Listen through the intended instruments in Ableton Live to judge the audible result.
Which Ableton Live versions have been verified?
None has yet passed the complete host check: candidate opening, instrument playback, continued editing, saving and reopening. XML reparse verification and a successful download do not prove Ableton compatibility. Keep the original and check candidates in the same Live version that created the source.
Is the downloadable example a real Ableton project?
The symbolic example uses generated XML compressed as .als and a deterministic edit. It was not exported by Ableton Live, is not a complete Live project, and does not establish host compatibility or AI musical quality.

- Inspect the downloadable symbolic example.
- Read the velocity guide or note-length guide.
- Compare Ableton’s native MIDI tools.
